FSE proposal

The 100 days were not good days for me. Every day was the same thing, and every one of those days was quite dull. I didn't exactly like the idea of documenting everything that happened because I don't think there was anything worth remembering.  I still can't really tell the difference between most of the days.  They seem to have become a blur of events.
For my project I want to take all my photos and blend them together to make paper. I want the photos to be almost destroyed because I don't want to remember them, but they will become something else since I can't change the fact that they happened.
So with this paper I will have created, all the photos will be blended together and you won't really be able to see anything in them. I want to paint on the paper.. I'm not really sure what yet. I'm not sure if I'm going to paint an actual image on it or just some colours/shapes/patterns..

I'm not really sure where I could go with this idea.. I'm not going to be getting into anything too crazy since I don't have the time, energy, or desire to do anything big.. but I'd love suggestions.

  2. I love the idea. I love the simplicity of it. And I like how you used the idea of a blur and using that in the paper. I think you paint it with your wonderful sense of colour usage. I think you should add objects on there that are related to your images like your bunnies fur since most of them are of her/him. It might sound awful but it would be awesome to have a touchy furry part on your image! :D

  3. ahh! I like that idea.. I was trying to think of something I could add to it with the paint. I think the fur makes a lot of sense.. I do spend a lot of time with my rabbit (plus he's been shedding fur like crazy lately). I think the different textures I could work with would be really interesting.
    Thank you!

  4. neato idea. maybe if you made a really large batch of this paper mulch you could dye parts of it different colours, and then piece it back together into an image before it dries (i think i saw something like this on art attack before), such as a landscape, portrait, etc. for me that kind of represents trying to forget past memories, changing them, turning them into something else and trying to forget them.

also an idea to maybe communicate the repetitiveness of the 100 days, or the fact they might have blurred into one another- you could create a flat piece of paper, maybe make some small block prints and create a repetitive pattern over top ?

personally i would really like to see something further beyond the images. since these are memories you'd want to forget, turning them into something else would give hints of future because theres always something beyond present and past moments. maybe showing the corner of a photo in the paper would show that they were at some point photos, since you won't be able to make any out.

i think that makes sense and hopefully it was useful

  5. I like that your piece will loose most of the content of the images. I would describe it as tearing down old memories to create new memories. It seems like life blurs together most times into a random color soup.

Do you plan to make any image visible? Is there one memory, even just one, that has some sort of meaning to you? Perhaps you could make one stand out, or paint that one image.

Yara had a good idea with the tactile thing. You might want a viewer to guess what was in the image from some evidence like fur.

  6. Caleb's Idea of painting on, or keep just one memory that stands out to you and placing it onto the paper you created is really interesting.

I also have a question. How will you be presenting the paper?
Will it be on some type of board? or in a book?

  7. I think this a pretty cool idea because it's so simple, but shows how memories are, because like you mentioned a lot of the 100 days are just a blur, so blending them all together is like just putting them all in one big blur, haha.
I took a quick look at some of your photos and there seems to be quite a few pictures of your cat and yarn, so maybe you can somehow incorporate your cat into it or yarn.
I think you could do some really cool stuff with the yarn, like if your making some sort of paper, you could put the yarn in the paper, cause ive seen some paper like that at the dollar store and places like that where there are leaves or little things blended in with the paper...just a thought :)

  8. Laurel: I like the idea of using dye and making different colours to make something out of, but I don't think I'm going to do that. I'm just going to make one large sheet.. probably will turn an ugly colour. I don't think I'm going to try and change the memories, since I can't really do that. I remember things a certain way because thats how they happened. But thanks for the idea!
I like the idea of the block print a lot better than painting. I think I'm going to do this because really, when printmaking you put most of your time and energy into carving the block, and printing it is almost effortless. After a while, I stop trying with things. I give up pretty fast. Even when taking the 100 photos. Its an easy assignment, just take a photo and post it onto a blog. But I forgot some days.
I don't really want to be able to make out the photos, since I'd like to just forget those days and move on.
    Thanks for the ideas (:

Caleb: I don't want any of the photos to be visible. There were a few good days, but even then they weren't that great. I want this to be like forgetting what happened and moving into the future.
I'm definitely going to do the tactile thing. Using fur would be good because spending time with my rabbit is the only thing from the 100 days that I would like to include in the future. Thank you!

Connor: Ahh, I wasn't really sure what I was going to do to present the paper. I think I'm going to do it in a board, just kind of as it is. I don't think I would put it in a book because I am usually not comfortable with people poking around at the things I do or feel. Thanks

Cassandra: I really like the idea of including yarn. I did do a lot of knitting over the 100 days. Like I said about the rabbit fur, it's one of the few things from the 100 days I'd like to see in the future. That would also add a bit of colour to the paper since I think the colours from the photos will not be the nicest. The colour could be like the possibility of better days in the future. Thank you for that idea!

  9. I love the idea of this. Breaking down of the memories and creating something almost worth remembering. Maybe you could pain something that you strongly remember during the 100 days. Something that you want to remember. Give it the spotlight.

  10. Jenelle: Thanks for the suggestion! What I think I'm going to do is do the block print idea, but use a pattern representing that thing.. perhaps printed the amount of times that I repeated that experience and photographed it

  11. I really like that idea. Do you plan to have all the prints in the same colour, or a certain colour. Or just do what what you feel would work

  12. Jenelle: I might just do one colour, since I'm working with the idea that all the days were the same. I'll probably choose a colour, but a kind of dull colour, one that might not stand out as much against the colour of the paper but still are visible.. The days were pretty boring, so I'm not going to be working with my normal crazy colours.

  13. And also just too add the yarn thing, maybe you could have different coloured yarn, and have more than one piece of paper, and each one being a different colour...maybe to represent different emotions from different days/pictures

  14. oh wait nevermind, i just read that your choosing one colour and stuff
    haha

  15. Cassandra: haha, that's a cool idea though!
probably sticking to one big paper with one colour though
